Add a folder and watch the posters appear. MovieCat uses free public movie databases, so there's nothing to sign up for.

Finds your movies for you

"Find movies automatically" searches your home folder and external drives and proposes the folders that hold films and series.

TV shows, grouped

Episodes are recognised by season and episode number and grouped per show, including anime-style numbering.

Leaves out the noise

Home videos, screen recordings, phone clips and tutorials stay out of your library, even in folders that mix them with movies.

Rate, search, sort

Give titles your own 1–10 rating, filter by movies or TV, and sort by title, year, rating or date modified.

Fix a match in seconds

No accounts, no analytics, no tracking. Your library stays on your computer; only the titles read from file names are sent to public movie databases to look them up. Read the privacy policy.

macOS: the download isn't signed, so the first time, right-click MovieCat → Open. A Mac App Store version is on its way.
Windows: run the installer. Windows may warn about an unknown publisher: click More info → Run anyway. Prefer no installer? Get the zip.
Linux: make the AppImage executable (chmod +x MovieCat-x86_64.AppImage) and run it, or get the tar.gz (needs GTK 3).
